ABOUT THE CLUB

Brief History

The rowing club was originally established in 1961 for BP employees, hence our club colours of Green, Yellow and Black.

In 1993, The Skiff Club, Kingston Royals Dragon Boating Club, The Royal Canoe Club and Walbrook combined to form the recently renamed Teddington Water Sports Centre, all sharing the joint facilities managed by CCFL. We are now an open club and welcome anyone interested in rowing. To become a member of Walbrook RC you must also become a member of Teddington Watersports Centre who manage the site

Facilities

The club has an excellent fleet of boats of a range of sizes for the member’s use. We meticulously maintain and upgrade the fleet to ensure our members get the best. In support of the “on-the-water” coaching we offer, we have three club coaching launches and access to several more.

For scullers who own their own boat we currently have some racking space available for full club members. There is a separate fee for racking space payable to Teddington Watersports Centre

No rowing club would be complete without a well-equipped gym on site. We are justly proud of the facilities with 16 rowing machines (ergos) and circuit weights located in an excellent clubhouse which boasts a comfortable bar area, giant TV, excellent kitchen and a fantastic atmosphere, especially on club nights .  One of the highlights after early weekend outings is the well earned coffee and cakes, served at 10am on a Saturday morning!

Walbrook members can be seen out on the water and training throughout the week, but weekend mornings, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights are the official times and the busiest. Training varies throughout the year but senior rowers tend to use the gym and ergos on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with circuits organised on Mondays and Wednesdays. At the weekends Seniors and Masters are out on the water early on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

There are many Junior sessions, including schoolchildren from several local schools, divided into age groups and ability which  take place all through the week. All age groups are represented at the club from J12 to Masters H (over 70!).

Coaching

9646c-junior-rowing.jpeg
We have a number of club members who hold BR coaching qualifications including the level 2, Bronze and Silver awards who help with coaching.

Additionally there are a good number of very experienced, accomplished and helpful rowers to call on for help and advice. We encourage and support members to gain and improve rowing qualifications.

In the summer, courses are organised for beginners lasting about four weeks which supplement those run for novice and intermediate scullers.
Coxes are always highly valued, therefore membership for coxes is free and special coaching is arranged for those interested in pursuing this important and skilled role.

New members are always warmly welcomed whether complete novices, experienced oarsmen/women or of international standard. To find out more about membership or just come down to have a look around check out the Membership page
