Juniors
Training Times

Training Commitment

Training commitment is dependent on age and experience. In general juniors should expect to attend regularly in order to be select for crews. We are sorry but we are not able to accept juniors who want to attend on an ad hoc basis.

J12 – 2 times a week

J13 – 3 times a week

J14 – 4 times a week

J15  - 6 times a week

J16 and above  – will require up to 15 hours a week for high performance juniors and will require 2 sessions on Saturday and Sundays. Those wishing to train on a regular basis but not at high performance level will be offered a programme based on around 5 sessions per week. We are happy to take those who cannot attend all the sessions as long as attendance is regular

Notes

Please be prompt – if you are delayed especially for evening water sessions then please let Peter know  - as the light fades we need to get out promptly

Saturday and Sunday water sessions – for those on double sessions its very important to bring suitable food to “refuel” between outings.

October half term – there will be a programme of rowing during the day time similar to the weekend

Events and river closures

  • Saturday 19th October afternoon – river closure RCC event ay the club – restricted parking . We hope to still be able to row but may need to adjust timings
  • Sunday 27th October - Outrigger race - restricted car parking and access to the hard.
  • Saturday 9th November - river closure - Kingston Head – no rowing unless selected to race  - J15,16 and 17 crews only. No parking in car park
  • Saturday 16th November river closure - Teddington Head - please make sure you are available to help as this is a major fund raiser for us. No rowing unless selected to race But we do need juniors to help sell food, collect in numbers and help crews to boat. We need parents to help on the barbecue, donate cakes and be on timing teams.

A clean, dry change of clothes and a waterproof if it is wet, should be brought to every training session. Juniors will be turned away if they don’t have the right kit with them.
In addition, Juniors are expected to help with rigging and loading of boats prior to any races they are entered into and this usually happens on a Thursday before the race in place of training.Morning sessions are “winter training” only.
